U.S. Preparing Sanctions Against Corrupt Lebanese

Politicians and businessmen targeted to weaken Hezbollah.

Officials in President Trump’s Administration are seeing an opportunity to drive a wedge between Hezbollah and its allies in Lebanon. Anticorruption sanctions are being prepared against prominent Lebanese politicians and businessmen as part of an effort to weaken the influence of Hezbollah, particularly in the aftermath of last week’s explosion in Beirut’s port.

The blast that killed at least 150 people and injured thousands more has accelerated efforts in Washington to blacklist Lebanese leaders with Hezbollah, which is that nation’s dominant political and military force. Hezbollah is backed by Iran and has been part of the coalition government in Lebanon for decades.

President Trump said sanctions are a central tool in his “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran, and sanctions against the corrupt Lebanese leaders are an extension of that campaign.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump and his advisers as they look to sanctions to pressure Iran while at the same time extending aid and assistance to the Lebanese people.
  • About the years of effort of Hezbollah to weaken the general Middle East, and especially as they regularly target Israel.
